THE OAK-D PLAYBOOK

Learn how to build rapid Computer Vision prototypes with the OAK-D Cameras

The playbook to make the OAK-D Camera your strongest engineering weapon

If you possess the OAK-D camera but aren't sure how to use it, then this short exploration will show you how.

Here's the story:

In June 2022, I decided to host the biggest 3D Computer Vision giveaway and send the OAK-D camera to one of my email readers.

And it turns out, I got so many requests for a course on it, that I had no choice but to dig even more into this fantastic camera.

Here are things that I learned, and that I'm going to teach you in this exploration:

The OAK-D Playbook

50+ Out of the Box Algorithms

How to run 50+ Cutting-Edge Applications including 3D Segmentation, 3D Tracking, 3D Reconstruction, and more...

DepthAI

(image from Luxonis)

What you need to know about the DepthAI Library to build rapid experimentation projects on the OAK-D

How to get an OAK-D

My recommendations before getting an OAK-D camera (plus a link I accidentally discovered and that might not stay up forever to get a really cheap one)

Stereo Vision

The quickest way to run Stereo Vision algorithm on the OAK-D

VPUs

The details about how VPUs (Vision Processing Units) work and how you can use OpenVINO with the OAK-D to run model at thunderbolt speed

Multi-View Stereo

How to combine several OAK-D cameras together into a multi-view setup

Deep Stereo Vision

How to run the State-Of-The-Art (2022) of Stereo Vision on the OAK-D

OAK-D on Autonomous Robots

How to use the OAK-D on Autonomous Robots (a part on ROS will be covered)

Custom Neural Networks

How to train and and export custom neural networks to the OAK-D

Muhammad Kazim, Postdoctoral Researcher at Khalifa University

"The MindMap method was amazing and I really learned good materials from this course."

"I was confused to know if this course would cover the practical implementation of OAK-D or not. And I also wondered about the difference between the online resources available and your course.

But thank you, I learned too much from this course.

I found it useful to understand the OAK-D camera basics and get the python implementations.

The MindMap method was amazing and I really learned good materials from this course.

I liked most your implementation of some examples like Image visualization, Depth estimation and neural networks. But I also liked the practical examples using the OAK-D camera, understanding how the OAK-D camera works, and understanding the relationship between OAK-D and OpenVINO.

I recommend all the students, researchers and practitioners, to take this course because it provides detailed information and practical implementations of neural networks, image visualization, depth visualization, how OAK-D cameras work and how OpenVINO is working inside the OAK-D camera."

FAQs

Do I need to get an OAK-D camera before taking this course?

Yes, at least I recommend it. There are no notebooks and no way to follow the course if you don't have the camera. I'll provide links and recommendations in the course to get some.

What's the difference between this and the Luxonis documentation?

While the Luxonis documentation is great to explore and get information about the camera and DepthAI library, it's really exhaustive and doesn't really tell you what to do with the camera.

This playbook has been tailored for Computer Vision Engineers who aspire to use the OAK-D camera for rapid prototyping and to test cutting-edge algorithms inside.

It's therefore much more straight-to-the-point and gets you quicker to the solution (It's in fact a short course, and you'll actually have your own cutting-edge algorithms running on the camera in under an hour.)
